Ndali Lodge near Kibale Forest has a magnificent setting on a flat top rim of a dead volcano with views of the Ruwenzori Mountains, Nyinambuga crater lake and the beautiful Ugandan countryside dotted with banana plantations, patches of forest and small thatched huts. Ndali Lodge was the brainchild of Nick Price, whose grandfather first went to Uganda in the 1920s to grow tea and settled there. He designed it so that it would blend with the landscape and the capture the spirit of Ugandan countryside - the buildings, incorporating traditional mud rendering and thatched roofs, are part of a working farm which will introduce guests to Ugandan life.
The emphasis here is on nature walks on Ndali estate, providing 1000 acres of rolling farmland, forest and wild pasture which abounds in birds, butterflies, exotic plant species and wild herbs, or in the enchanting Kibale forest. The forest is renowned for habituated chimpanzees, 11 species of primates and an amazing variety of birdlife, butterflies, plants and ancient trees that grow over 50 metres tall. Boat rides around the crater lake will also reveal the spectacular tropical birds, for which Uganda is reputed to have the largest variety in Africa (over 990 species recorded).
The lodge has eight individual thatched cottages on the hillside, all with commanding views of the countryside. Each cottage has a very spacious bedroom, a verandah and an ensuite bathroom. The rooms are beautifully decorated in a simple style with elegant fabrics adorning the four-poster beds. Water is supplied from the lake without any external power and heated by a simple yet super efficient Tanganyika boiler developed in the absence of electricity, gas or generator.
The lodge is run by charming and passionate Ugandans who are determined to provide guests with a memorable time at Ndali. They all come from local farms and villages and therefore are a wealth of knowledge about local customs, folklore and village life. They will arrange delightful walks and picnics for you and cook wholesome meals that incorporate the freshest local ingredients and the most exotic flavors. Breakfast is usually taken on the verandah overlooking the lake: on the menu you may find homemade bread served with wild honey, free-range, organic eggs cooked to your taste, hand-picked tropical fruit from the local farms and freshly squeezed passion juice from the fruit provided by Ndali's own vines.
In the evening, three thatched cottages connected by two open passages, which are occasionally used by fruit bats, owls and frogs as a highway to the crater lake, provide a place to unwind at the bar or the living room and to dine in candle light. The lodge has deliberately avoided the use of electricity and generators in order to maintain the tranquil and serene ambience of this delightful Ugandan countryside. Ndali lodge really brings you closer to the Ugandan people and its diverse and rich countryside in a special way.

Gorilla Forest Camp is a permanent luxury tented camp nestled in the mist-swathed rainforests of a mountainside in the heart of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The exclusive location – the sole property within the park’s boundaries - afford Gorilla Forest Camp the status of being the ideal base for gorilla tracking, primate viewing and birding excursions in the park.
Bwindi is situated on Uganda’s extreme western border, very close to the geographical heart of Africa where the confluence of the Rift Valley and the Great Lakes have created an eco-system that perhaps defines the very essence of the continent. Fittingly, Bwindi is one of the most biologically diverse areas on Earth, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is an enduring pocket of a huge primeval forest that once stretched from the Virunga Volcanoes in the South to the Rwenzori Mountains in the North. The fertile 331 square kilometers of the park contain 113 species of mammals (including a herd of the rare forest elephant), 200 species of butterfly, over 360 species of birds and a prodigious 324 tree varieties (10 of which are endemic to the park). In addition to this incredible diversity, Bwindi is home to seven species of primates, attracting the attention of international conservation efforts, of which the most endangered is that elusive giant of Africa-- the Mountain Gorilla. Only 600 of these magnificent animals remain worldwide, and Bwindi is home to just over half of them.
Gorilla Forest Camp has been designed to blend seamlessly into this most atmospheric of environments, carefully-appointed towards the misty valleys and looming, forest-clad mountains that protect this fragile eco-system. Accommodation is in 8 double tents, raised on wooden platforms, each with en-suite facilities and hot and cold running water, WC, basin and unusually – a bathtub looking out onto the forest. Each tent has a spacious wooden verandah where guests can relax, enjoy a private meal and absorb the exotic mystery of the surrounding rainforest that provided the inspiration for the animation of Disney’s The Jungle Book.
The Gorilla Forest Camp offers a bar and dining cottage overlooking the rain forest, as well as a raised natural platform for open air dining. At night, a traditional African campfire is lit from where a lecture might be given by a visiting primatologist, the gorilla briefings are undertaken or guests simply admire the myriad brilliance of Bwindi’s crystal clear mountain sky.
